Springfield, Ill. | May 25 2023 | State of Illinois Launches $15 Million Federal Grant Support Program | Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today launched a $15 million Federal Grant Support Program to assist Illinois-based businesses and organizations seeking federal grants that align with the State’s economic development objectives. The state-funded grant match program will encourage more Illinois-based businesses, organizations, and local governments to apply for federal grants while increasing their competitiveness by committing state dollars…The grant is open to Illinois entities applying for federal grants in support of projects that are broadly aligned with Illinois’ economic development goals and priorities, including projects that support long-term economic growth, projects focused on reducing the equity gap, efforts to attract more workers and businesses to Illinois, and more.
Through a competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), qualified entities can apply for up to $2 million in matching grants. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until available funds are depleted. Projects located in underserved areas or low-income communities will receive additional points during the review process.

This notice announces the availability of funds and solicits applications from eligible entities, including nonprofit organizations, to deliver Brownfields Job Training programs that recruit, train, and retain a local, skilled workforce by prioritizing unemployed and under-employed residents to obtain the skills and credentials needed for pathways into full-time employment in various aspects of hazardous and solid waste management and within the larger environmental field, including sustainable cleanup and reuse, and chemical safety. Washington, D.C. | May 17 2023 | Critical Sector Job Quality Grants (FOA-ETA-23-13), Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration | The purpose of this demonstration program is to support transformative efforts to improve job quality and availability of good jobs, particularly for the benefit of historically marginalized populations and communities that have experienced barriers to employment in good jobs. The primary focus of these demonstration grants is expanding job quality in the care, climate resiliency and clean energy transition, and hospitality sectors. These demonstration grants will support industry-led, worker-centered sector strategies built through labor-management partnerships aimed at improving job quality in key sectors. These partnerships will address equity, job quality, and worker voice as they design training models and train workers for family-supporting jobs. High-quality jobs, for the purposes of this grant program, include those that offer family-sustaining wages and benefits, have predictable hours and schedules, are filled through transparent and nondiscriminatory hiring and promotion practices, offer clear paths for advancement, always prioritize worker health and safety, and include workers’ voices in the workplace. Projects under this announcement will fund both short-term capacity-building planning grants and longer-term implementation grants.
Washington, D.C. | May 13 2023 | Community Infrastructure for Research in Computer and Information Science and Engineering (23-589), National Science Foundation | The Community Research Infrastructure for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CIRC) program drives discovery and learning in the core disciplines of the three participating CISE divisions [Computing and Communication Foundations (CCF), Computer and Network Systems (CNS), and Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS)] of the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) by funding the creation and enhancement of world-class research infrastructure. This research infrastructure will specifically support diverse communities of CISE researchers pursuingfocused research agendas in computer and information science and engineering. This support involves developing the accompanying user services and engagement needed to attract, nurture, and grow a robust research community that is actively involved in determining directions for the infrastructure, as well as management of the infrastructure. This should lead to research infrastructure that can be sustained through community involvement and community leadership, and that will enable advances not possible with existing research infrastructure. Further, through the CIRC program, CISE seeks to ensure that researchers from a diverse range of institutions of higher education (IHEs), including minority-serving and predominantly undergraduate institutions, as well as researchers from non-profit, non-academic organizations, have access to such infrastructure.

The award ceiling for this NOFO is $125,000.
Washington, D.C. | May 6 2023 | IUSE: Innovation in Two-Year College STEM Education (23-584), National Science Foundation | The National Science Foundation (NSF) plays a prominent role in the improvement of undergraduate STEM education at the Nation’s colleges and universities. Through the IUSE: Innovation in Two-Year College STEM Education (ITYC) program, the agency seeks to extend this effort by making an intentional investment in the country’s two-year institutions of higher education, or two-year colleges. The twin goals of the ITYC program are to (1) center students in the effort to advance innovation, promote equitable outcomes and broaden participation for all students in STEM education at two-year colleges, and (2) enhance the capacity of two-year colleges to harness the talent and potential of their diverse student and faculty population through innovative disciplinary, multi-department, and college-wide efforts. These goals will be achieved by investing in projects at two-year colleges that contribute to student success in STEM-based foundational courses and academic pathways for both majors and non-majors.

Chicago, Ill. | May 30 2023 | Stateline communities receive grants to clean up brownfield sites though $7 million investment | On Thursday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced more than $7.3 million from President Biden’s “Investing in America” agenda to expedite the cleanup of brownfield sites in Illinois. The EPA has selected nine communities in Illinois to receive nine grants totaling $7,307,771 in competitive EPA Brownfields funding through the Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (MARC) Grant Programs…As brownfield sites are transformed into community assets, they attract jobs, promote economic revitalization, and transform communities into sustainable places.
Will County, Ill. | May 19 2023 | Will County Announces $43 Million in ARPA Grant Awards | Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant and Will County Board leadership have announced the awarded allocation of $43 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars to 120 local governments, community organizations, and small businesses throughout the county. This announcement follows Will County Board approval of allocations at its May 18, 2023 Board Meeting.
Chicago, Ill. | May 18 2023 | Hunter applauds $4.5 million grant for Chicago Public Library | To further expand services, programs and library materials, State Senator Mattie Hunter announced the Chicago Public Library will be receiving over $4.5 million from the Illinois Secretary of State…The Public Library Per Capita Grants are authorized under Illinois library law for public libraries. Each year, funds are allocated for books and learning materials, staff, equipment, digital access and new technology. The Chicago Public Library is set to receive $4,572,736.
Washington, D.C. | May 15 2023 | Biden-Harris Administration Announces Nearly $100 Million in Continued Support for Mental Health and Student Wellness Through Bipartisan Safer Communities Act | Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is announcing more than $95 million in awards across 35 states to increase access to school-based mental health services and strengthen the pipeline of mental health professionals in high-needs school districts. The awards were funded by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), which President Biden signed into law on June 25, 2022, and they help advance the Administration’s efforts to tackle the mental health crisis in our schools as part of his National Mental Health Strategy. Springfield, Ill. | May 12 2023 | More than $41 million awarded for infrastructure projects in Southern Illinois | Eight major infrastructure projects in Madison and St. Clair Counties in southwestern Illinois are receiving more than $41 million in grant funding through the 2023 Illinois Competitive Freight Program. The initiative, which distributes federal infrastructure funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), aims to improve the movement of freight and create jobs and economic opportunities while enhancing safety and local quality of life. Successful proposals were ranked based on the plan’s goals: increasing safety, improving reliability, and boosting intermodal connections and commerce at the local level.
Chicago, Ill. | May 9 2023 | Mayor Lightfoot and DCASE Announce $10M in Grant Support to 77 Nonprofit Arts Organizations Through the “Chicago Arts Recovery Program” | Today, Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) announced 77 “Chicago Arts Recovery Program” grantees, providing $10M in project grant funding to aid local arts organizations still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. This new program, combined with DCASE’s annual “CityArts Program,” providing $6.5M in general operating support (with new grantees to be announced in July), totals $16.5M in direct support to Chicago arts nonprofits in 2023 — the largest in DCASE’s history.

Chicago, Ill. | May 5 2023 | CTA gets $200M in federal funding for new ‘L’ cars | The CTA is set to begin planning for another set of new “L” cars, after the agency received $200 million in federal funding. The grant from the Federal Transit Administration, announced Friday, will allow the CTA to buy up to 300 new electric train cars to replace aging cars built four decades ago. But the agency is still years away from determining specifics about the cars, including features, costs and additional sources of funding.
Chicago, Ill. | May 2 2023 | Lightfoot announces $54M in grants for small businesses, community organizations | Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced more economic development grants for Chicago on Tuesday…She announced 133 finalists that will receive economic development grants…Finalists were selected from more than 600 applications received by the Department of Planning and Development earlier this year. Awards ranged from $10,000 to $5.9 million, Lightfoot said in a statement.
