| Grant Opportunities and News with a Focus on Chicago and Illinois |
Chicago, Ill. – Historia Research LLC is pleased to announce a new monthly news digest to disseminate grant opportunities and news of relevance to the City of Chicago and State of Illinois. The digest will feature federal, state, local, and private grant opportunities and awards that have direct benefits to Chicagoans and/or other diverse communities in Illinois.
The digest’s “grant opportunities” section will prioritize programs for underserved and disinvested communities in Chicago and Illinois as defined by President Biden’s Executive Order On Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government and Justice40 Initiative. The news digest is intended to promote substantial and competitive opportunities of $500,000+ per award for more than a handful of grantees. In addition, the news digest seeks to serveĀ Governor JB Pritzker’s Innovate Illinois initiative “to launch coordinated and robust efforts to bring home federal investment in science, technology, and climate initiatives.”
The digest’s “grant awards” section will focus on announcements from news sites and press releases regarding substantial awards to Chicago and Illinois organizations for programs designed to advance racial equity and to support underserved communities.
Additional Notes
Whereas many federal grant opportunities afford less than two months between announcement and submission, the monthly digests will be posted in the first half of each month and updated until the end of the month
Each month, the top post in the digest will feature a grant opportunity of sufficient size and opportunity (as defined by award ceiling and anticipated number of awards) to favor Chicago and Illinois applicants.
There are several grant aggregators or databases to search for all types of opportunities, including grants.gov, the main source of federal grants for the digest. What we hope to achieve with a monthly digest for Chicago and Illinois organizations is to publicize 10 to 15 opportunities of general interest to non-profits, social enterprises, green energy & emerging technology companies, and other progressive agencies.
The selection of 10 to 15 grant opportunities from hundreds of notifications entails organizational priorities, ours being: higher education, racial and gender equity, homelessness, community violence, workforce development, veteran services, climate change, and that Chicago be recognized as the world class city it is.
The recent NOFO by the State of Illinois, Federal Grant Support Program, states: “The State of Illinois benefits economically when federal funds are invested in Illinois. However, Illinois receives less funding in federal grants per person (or per capita) than the average state as well as states similar in population size.” We have a special interest in Chicago, our current home, but as a native of suburban (Hinsdale) and rural (Jo Daviess County) Illinois, we want all of Illinois to compete effectively for federal grants!
